From 1989-96 I was a member of Plum Village, the community of the late Buddhist Master Thich Nhat Hanh. At Plum Village meditation bells, or mindfulness bells, are used everywhere from the zendo to the kitchen, gently punctuating the day as a reminder to come back to the present moment by taking a break from speaking, thinking, and doing- and paying attention to three breaths. As it has done for so many people, this practice had a profound effect on me and helped me learn how to be here now. 25 years later I was inspired to create a number of sculptures incorporating meditation bells. I have since refined this idea into the ongoing series that you see here. It is my wish that they may help you and all beings be happy.
