I hand carve each bird, then sand and varnish it. I choose not to polish the surface, as the lightly abraded surface is reminiscent of feathers. Color, markings, and shape vary as each bird is hand carved from natural materials.
This soapstone is a opaque, chalky white with occasional gray spots and streaks.
